First Birthday Party

We had John Huston's first birthday party the Saturday after he turned one because Lloyd and I had to work the weekend of his actual birthday. The party was at MeMe & Pop's house and we use the "Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails" theme. I made some dog biscuits (sugar cookies in the shape of dog bones), puppy chow (chex mix with peanut butter, chocolate and confec. sugar) and dog food (peanut butter and chocolate cereal balls) to go with the theme.

outfit Mrs. Debbie made for him

My best friend Stefanie made his wonderful birthday cake and it matched perfectly with his invitation.

We invited all of our immediately family and cousins to help celebrate this special occasion. We put him down for an early nap and I went early to start decorating. Lloyd had to wake him up in order to get him to the party on time and he was still a little sleepy when the party started. After a little while, he warmed up to everyone and we opened his gifts.

John Huston loved playing with his cousins

Refreshment Table

After opening presents, we sang "Happy Birthday" and gave JH his "smash"cake. He was upset with me trying to get him to wear his birthday hat so he was not in the best mood to dive into his cake. He did try a little bit of frosting and then was ready to get down.

We were so glad that most of the family got to come and it will be an event we will always cherish and remember!!

Our Little One Year Old

We had our 12 month visit today at the pediatrician's office. John Huston weighed 22 lbs, 11.5 oz and was 30.5 inches long. He is 50th percentile for his weight and 75th percentile for his height. He is going to be a tall little boy. He was so tired and his patience was gone from us waiting almost 1 1/2hrs for his visit that he shredded all of the paper off of the table. I finally had to give him some tongue depressors to entertain with and let him turn the light switches off and on. Dr. Bennuri was impressed that he was such a good walker. He was being outgoing and went right to Dr. Bennuri and let him hold him a few minutes while he tried to get his stethoscope. The visit ended with him having to get a TB skin test and 4 shots. It was pitiful having to hold him down and him scream even louder with each shot. I was prepared and had some yummy MumMum treats to get him afterwards. He fell asleep within 5 minutes of the car ride home and slept all the way home.

Happy Birthday John Huston!!

Well the time has finally come...our baby isn't a baby anymore. Where did the year go? John Huston is a big ole' boy now! He is now walking more than he crawls, wears size 5 diapers and is transitioning well drinking whole milk. He loves to push his toys everywere instead of riding them. One of his new talents is that he has started to moving his finger up and down over his lips to make noises. He also likes to imidate people by laughing out loud when he hears them laugh and loves to pretend to sweep the floor or dust while Lloyd and I clean. If you give him a telephone, he will hold it up to his ear and pretend to talk to someone. He knows that a door knob is a way out and he can stand on his toes and reach the door knob and turn it but thankfully not open it!

Lloyd and I both had to work the weekend of his birthday and after we both got off, we went to MeMe & Pop's house for his birthday dinner.

John Huston enjoyed dressing and mac n cheese for supper. MeMe made cupcakes and he although he wasn't all for the icing with sprinkles on top, he loved eating the ice cream.

He went ahead and opening his presents from us and he got a animated puppy, baby laptop and toy organizer for his closet from Lloyd and I. MeMe and Pop gave him a bubble maker for his bathtub and Nanny gave him a swing that I know he will love this spring. We can't wait for his birthday party next weekend!
