3/4th of the Year is Gone!

John Huston now 9 months! We had his 9 month check up today and he weighs 20 lbs 15.5 oz and 29 1/2 inches long. Dr. Bennuri said he is going to be a tall boy, just like his Daddy. He got his first flu shot and has to get the booster one in 1 month. He did great and hardly cried afterwards. They also checked his iron level since a lot of babies are anemic from not getting enough iron in their diet and his was perfect...10.4! He doesn't have a lot of patience waiting in the doctor's office so he entertained himself by tearing up the paper liner into shreds and clashing tongue blades into the walls. He even took off Dr. Bennuri's glasses!
He now loves to cruise furniture and got his first 'owie' a couple of weeks ago when he fell on the floor when he was climbing up the fireplace and Buster moved just at the right time. He climbed his first set of stairs at Nanny's house too. John Huston doesn't like his walker as much as he can get around just as fast on his own. But he does use it to hold on to and trys to walk...but few falls usually happens!

He loves to help me in the kitchen as he unloads the dishwasher, picks out food from the fridge door and grabs my pots and pans from the cabinet.

I won a little walker wagon with alphabet blocks from collecting pampers points in diapers and he loves to ride around in it when his Daddy pushes him.

He loves to stand up in the bathtub and play with his fireducky. A good bath kills a cranky mood at night.

But what goes along with the standing is the bad part of him standing up in the highchair. Unfortunately we had to add the ugly straps to the highchair that Lloyd built. John Huston has 5 teeth now, 3 up top and 2 on bottom. I can't wait for the 4th one on top so they could at least be even. We now have added a meat for lunch with his vegetable and fruit and he eats a meat/vegetable/fruit for supper. We are going broke on feeding this boy! He also has a snack between breakfast and lunch and after he gets up from his nap before dinner and take 3 bottles a day. I hope we can move to table food soon! He is in stage 4 diapers and we had to start putting stage 5 on him at night so he could sleep better. Still doesn't like those wet diapers!
The 9 month mark also means something else...no more pumping! I had started weaning after he turned 8 months and then I was able to finish a few days ago. It's a bittersweet feeling as I am proud for doing it as long as I could and then again I am no longer tied to the pump and can sleep an extra 20 minutes in the mornings before work. At least I have another one or two months of milk saved up in the freezer.

First Trip to the Zoo

We went to the Birmingham Zoo for a little fall outing. John Huston loves animals and we could not wait until we could take him to the zoo. We decided to go this past Sunday since the weather was gorgeous and was a little warmer. The zoo was decorated for 'Boo At The Zoo' and hopefully John Huston will be able to enjoy going to that next year. He loved looking at the monkeys, giraffes, birds and flamingos the most.

We also got to ride on the carousel and he was a little bit scared of riding on the log with monkeys with Mommy holding him.

After looking at everything, John Huston knew it was time to go because he went fast asleep in the stroller.

Eight is Great!

Isn't it?? I keep telling myself I can't wait until this or can't wait until that with John Huston. Am I wishing his babyhood away?? He is changing more and doing more everyday. He is very mobile now with his crawling and when I come home from work he follows me everywhere up and down the hall and into the kitchen or bathroom. He loves to use the coffee table as his own jungle gym.

He also loves to terrorize Buster and crawl all over him too!

He still hasn't said that first word yet, but he makes the cutest "talking" noises when he cries. He pulls up to stand on everything now. He loves to stand so much, that he wakes up several times during the night and stands up in his crib and hollars until I come into his room so he can show me. Yawn!

John Huston now has 3 teeth, the two on bottom and one now on top. A little jack-o-latern just in time for Halloween! He now eats a jar of babyfood meats and loves it! He will eat cereal/half of fruit for breakfast, vegetable/other half of fruit for lunch and a meat and vegetable for dinner. Little piglet!! Lloyd brought him by work last week and he weighed 19 lbs 2 oz on our scales. What a big boy!

No More of That Toothless Grin

John Huston finally cut his first tooth today. Well, actually he cut two teeth at the same time. He has been teething more than normal this past week with everything going straight into his mouth. He spent the afternoon at my grandmother's house while I caught up on housework and she had noticed too how his mouth was really bothering him. While I was there, I put my finger on his bottom gum, and I felt something sharp graze against my finger. He wouldn't let me open his mouth good to look at it but I knew something was growing in there! Today when I got him to smile really big, I noticed not one, but two teeth coming up! They are still barely budding out of the gum but it is there! I guess it is time for all bottles!

First Family Vacation

Beach Trip 2009
We went on our first family vacation August 13-16th to Gulf Shores, AL. We usually go to the beach in August to celebrate our anniversary. This year we stayed in Gulf Shores Plantation at Fort Morgan. It was very exciting and tiring at the same time. When we came into town, we stopped and got some fresh shrimp and I boiled it for supper. Yum! Then did our beach shopping and got JH his baby float and baby pool for the beach. The next day, we hit the beach and had gorgeous weather. John Huston loved playing in the baby pool filled with ocean water.

and then Lloyd and him went and played in the ocean.

After getting worn out playing he would drink his bottle and I layed him on his playmat under the umbrella and he took a long nap while Lloyd and I relaxed.

After he woke up, we headed to the pool and he had a blast meeting other babies and floating in his baby float. He also loved playing in the sand and tried to stuff handfuls of sand in his mouth.

We ate out at several good restaurants and even got to meet up with my friend Paula at Souvenior City. The only thing that dampened our trip, was that he did not sleep well at all. We were exhausted! It was well worth the family vacation but we were so ready to come home after 3 nights. Next year we will be running after him as he heads straight towards those waves!!
